Melbourne has again topped the Global Liveability Index, coming in at the number one spot for the fourth consecutive year. Compiled by The Economist Intelligence Unit, the Index rated 140 capitals, with Melbourne scoring highly for health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure, and of course sport.
Vienna, Vancouver, Toronto and Adelaide were the next closest rivals with Calgary, Sydney, Helsinki, Perth and Auckland rounding out the top 10.
The result comes as no surprise to most Melburnians, particularly those who are looking to buy property in our fair city. As we dive into the spring selling season, Melbourne’s property market is poised to deliver more great results with the REIV reporting that 14 per cent of homes for sale by auction this year secured a sale before their auction date.
This is yet more evidence of ongoing buyer demand. Pre-auction sales haven’t been seen at this level since the last market peak in 2010 when 15 per cent of properties managed to achieve a sale prior to auction.
