Auctions pause as footy steals show this week

Auctions pause as footy steals show this week

Here we are in AFL Grand Final week and it does feel like history repeating.

On Saturday Hawthorn’s Hawks face interstate rival for the sport’s ultimate prize. Last year it was the Sydney Swans. This time it is the West Coast Eagles. For two hours the MCG hosts history in the making. Whether you love the game or not, it is hard not to feel proud of Melbourne as it welcomes 1000s for one of spring’s pinnacle events.

And while we’re comparing GF weeks let’s also note 2015’s property sales figures are as strong as they were 12 months ago. According to CoreLogic RP Data, there were 8,078 new listings over the four weeks to September 20. That’s 3.5% more than a year ago, stock influx very typical in the first weeks of spring. Tellingly, the total number of house listings in Melbourne is currently 28,351; 5.1% less than a year ago. Year-on-year, buyer numbers at open houses are as strong as ever so with fewer homes on the market we believe this unsated demand can only do one thing to prices… footballs are not the only thing pointing up right now.

State-wide auction numbers temporarily ebb to about 100 this AFL GF week. Next weekend, scheduled auctions bounce back to more than 1,000.

Gday Greg Im curious on your opinion about having an auction on AFL grand final day.As we both know Victorians love their footy and most even plan a month in advance. With the new public holiday making it a long weekend aswell.I have read a couple of blogs by Core logic suggesting public holidays have an average clearance rate below normal weekends. What im asking is would you or your company recommend selling in the Grand final weekend or choose a weekend before or after the grand final as the lower numbers ocouldn grand final day have you at a disadvantage,if you're serious about getting the best price. Thank you Shane Allen

Hi Shane Generally speaking we try to avoid Grand Final Day auctions, but every property is different and we recommend seeking advice from your local Greg Hocking area specialist on what's best for your particular property. Feel free to call us any time for further advice.
